Terra
Madre Youth Network
Since 2004, Slow Food has organized the world's
largest gathering of food producers, fisherman, breeders, chefs and
academics from all four corners of the globe during the biannual event,
Terra Madre -
International Meeting of Food Communities.
2008 marked the largest Terra Madre Meeting yet. In addition to the
producers, cooks, and academics, over 1000 youth delegates attended the
event for the first time.
They joined over 5000 farmers, breeders, fishers, food artisans and
producers, cooks and chefs and restaurateurs, and 500 academics that
are already part of the Terra Madre Network to assure that food and
agricultural knowledge is handed from one generation to the next.
These young people from around the world formalised the Youth Food
Movement with their participation at Terra Madre, and pledged their
commitment to drive change within their own communities.
24 delegates attended from the UK many of whom form the current
committee of the Youth Food Movement UK.
